This bokken is made from sturdy oak and has been stained to a beautiful deep glossy finish. The Cord Wrapped Wood Bokken measures 39 inches long and is the perfect instrument for practicing, demonstrations and training. This bokken also has a traditional cord-wrapped handle that not only provides a comfortable grip but also adds to its aesthetic value and authentic look. The Cord Wrapped Wood Bokken will look great on a display stand and work well as a training weapon. A two-piece hand guard is included. The bokken is available in two colors, Black with yellow cord wrapping, or cherry stained with black cord wrapping.

For younger students this might be a little hefty, but good for contact purposes. If you need something for forms but little contact, the slim bamboo is a better option: wp-ke-12.

Looks aren't everything

This Bokken is what I expected but contact will leave this one rattled. Best for forms which I use instead of a Broadsword for tai chi a little light but id say a good starter . Great finish on the blade but, looks aren't everything.

Stain Hue

The red oak stain for this Bokken looks different from the KD Shoto (similar style). Is there a bokken that matches the canadian red oak shoto?

Hmm, good question Erin. I'll have to look into the staining methods used. It could just be that the pictures were taken with different lighting.

Which is Which???

Which one is which??? I dont see a black one with yellow chording on there. I see two with black. I want to get the one with Black chording, so can someone please help me figure out which is which?

yes disregard the chord colors as described - they are both black. The cherry wood is the darker wood you see, with the red oak being the lighter hued wood.

handling

i love the handling. i have another boken but it doesnt have the grip and its has slipped from my hands, but the grips on this make it ideal.

NOT for actual use

This bokken lasted all of 10 minutes. While it looked nice coming out of the box, it was snapped after a couple light taps. Very upsetting all around.

My 7yr old daughter uses this for training. It is a great fit for her. The item is high quality wood and the handle has not loosened at all in the year we have had it. Very highly recommended

You get what you pay for

As long as you don't use this bokken for contact purposes, which it is not intended for, you are in the clear. The bokken itself is a little too light, but may be better suited well for a child. The handle wrap is woven nylon which will start to fray and come loose after 4 hours of solid practice. The actual craftsmanship is disappointing...porous wood, riddled with knots, not straight, and no continuity in the width of the blade. You will more than likely have difficulty getting the Tsuba down to the handle, and it won't fasten securely when put on. In all fairness, this bokken is only $10, so you get what you pay for. Good for forms, but expect it to break quickly if you decide to use it for contact.

Beautiful finish and great buy!

This is the nicest bokken I own and I use it to practice foot and hand work. It came with a very slight bow to the left and has not caused any problems for practice. The finish on this bokken is very nice and I hate to use it when training with another person, and usually use one of my other bokken. This is a great buy for the money.
