These chucks have a very good structure. The form adds the needed practice protection for reducing bruising while moving, exchanging hand positions, etc. Also, the inter-core is soft allowing less bruising as well in the event of a mistake or striking the body. Light to move, yet heavy enough to develop momentum. For price and structure, I am pleased. Ous!  

The cool thing about these nunchaku is that you get the overall idea of the functional purpose of nunchuk practice without the lethality of something like metal or wooden nunchaku. They are fairly light, and the cord design is sturdily anchored fairly deep into the core of the interal plastic, not attached directly to the foam, which is good. The cord itself is sturdy, and I would argue that the nunchuks would hold up alright in a sparring match (haven't tried that yet). The only thing I think I would say is that the bane of the design is in the plastic core. It's fairly weak, and it depends on the absorption of the foam rubber. If you intend to use these, do NOT strike them hard on a surface. My brother broke a similar pair on a birdbath, hence he's not allowed to touch these.

Overall I'd say they're great and the price is right. If you are looking for serious sparring weapons, perhaps they are not made for that challenge, but for practicing kata with nunchaku and getting the overall feel without beating yourself unconscious, they're a pretty good choice.

These foam chucks are the way to go if you want to give this classic martial arts weapon a try. They are standard in size and cord length. You can expect to give yourself a few bops on the head while learning nunchucku moves and forms. The foam padding on these ensures you will not hurt yourself, even when the chucks are moving fast. The one caveat is that they are MUCH lighter than conventional wooden chucks, so when you upgrade to the real thing, the additional weight will feel quite different. However, the skills will transfer. I still use the foam chucks to learn new things before trying them on the wood chucks.  

These rubber nunchucks are great for training. If you hit yourself it will not hurt you. After you practice then purchase the wooden ones for your tournament.   

I find that these are excellent for training. Soft enough to not hurt and heavy enough to twirl.

As with all things called weapons, make sure you know the law. Look it up online or ask a police officer at the police station about the laws in your area. Be smart and do not carry any weapon into the police station.  

Great for practice and learning nunchucks! Soft material, easy to grasp, and the thickness is perfect!  

The quality far exceeds the price for these. And, the shipping was very fast.  

When I was 16 about 30 years ago I bought the exact same set with the same dragon image and everything. It's like some kind of gray plastic tubing, probably conduit or PVC. It has maybe 1/2"ID and 1/8" wall thickness which when covered with the foam gives you a perfect diameter. It was dense open cell foam, but the surface is smooth so it feels more like smooth pleather than foam. The result is about as perfect of a finish and feel you could ask for. The gold dragon image wears off fast, but the foam stays perfect. You might want to smooth the inside edge of the tube if it isn't already so it doesn't start wearing into the rope.
They're very light as you can imagine, but you can still get them moving pretty fast before you feel the air slowing them down. If you want to add weight there's plenty of room, maybe put a wood dowel inside?

I live in California so the cops took mine several years later. It's a serious felony here!! I spent the night in jail, $5K bail and everything. The only thing that saved me is when I explained to the judge that they were so light and soft that they couldn't even give you a bloody nose, and I asked the police to show them to the judge. But somehow they couldn't find them!!! No weapon no crime! Talk about a guardian angel! A felony weapons conviction for nunchucks is a 25K fine and 5 YEARS in prison!! That would've ruined my life. An ex-con w/ a felony weapons conviction would've destroyed any chance of white collar jobs or good blue ones, and god only knows what else. Plus I'd never be allowed to own, or even touch a gun ever again. Since I've been a gun nut since I was 8, that would've killed me.
Sorry for the long story, but now you know what they're like and made of, and that they can ruin a mans life.

Our 7 yr old son loves these! He got a pair from a costume store and broke them in 2 weeks. These are a much higher quality and have lasted much longer and still going strong. Since they are foam rubber we don't have to worry about him hurting himself or anyone else. He will start using them at his karate class. Very good buy for the cost.  

These are great. I ordered them for my nephew for Christmas, he is gonna love them. They are really well made and should last him for a while. I got them in super fast time, at a super great price! Shipping charges were cheap! I would order from karate depot again, it was a great experience.  

My 9 and 13 year old love them. They are more sturdy than ones we have had in the past and the experience with this site was great!

These seem to be a bit more sturdy than other foam nunchucks I have used.  

My 11 & 12 yr old cousins love them and they are both uninjured so... 4 Stars.  

It is great for young students or beginners.  

these are awesome for a child. my nephews hit themselves going full speed and it doesn't phase them at all. they're a little light for adults but perfect for a child.

Good for practice but not for much more. They wear down and break fairly quickly. If you purchase these buy more than one set.  

These nunchucks are nice, but a little light for my taste. Great for beginners, but if swung too fast they get squirrelly.   

These chucks are great for people who don't want to risk having their brains knocked out by wood or metal chucks. They are light and easy to manuver with. They can still do some damage if you are hitting at full force, so I wouldn't recommend it for a kid under 12.  

These are great for practice and fit most ages...My family and I all Practice Jeet Kune Do and our ages range from 5, 8 , 27 and 32. We all think they are great. For a family that practices together it is a great deal.   

I just got these last week. For me they are way to light. My old pair were almost the exact same pair but were solid wood wrapped in rubber foam. The problem I keep having is if you try to swing them to fast they don't stay on course. They also have a habit of bouncing out of my hand. I did find that the are good for practicing new advanced moves slowly. I think they would be better suited for a beginner or kids.   

After a few days of heavy use, part of the handle broke off. This product is recommended for beginners so they can get a handle on this difficult weapon. Most certainly not for sparring, as I learned the hard way.  

This product is probably the best way to build your speed, technique, and confidence with your nunchaku. Because they are light, they are EXTREMELY fast (if you want them to be) and great for practicing in the house without fear of breaking anything. The perfect way to try out those new moves, double nunchuck techniques, and other things you may not want to try right away with a wooden or metal pair. Also makes a great stocking stuffer for Christmas!  

A fairly decent pair of nunchaku, great for beginners. The only problem that occurred was that on one pair I own, the plastic core broke near the cord, and is wearing away at it. This occurred through normal practice, not sparring. OK for the price, but I'd invest in a nice pair of wood, ball bearing ones, or at leas the ball bearing version of this model.  

Even though they have foam they still hurt a lot if you hit yourself. They are a bit heavy and a little too long for a kid to practice with.
