What's the difference between competition and traditional kama?

This is an explanation as to why certain kama are stark and austere in design vs fancy and ornate. Traditional kama tend to be slanted toward functionality and historical application, while modern kama focus on the ability to impress judges and optimize tricking.

These kama are generally not razor sharp as they are more for demonstration. That being said, it is still important to be safe when handling them as they are still metallic and by no means rounded. As for durability - these are focused more on lightness and enhancing showmanship rather than being able to take active bunkai or cutting demonstrations. These are more 'tournament' oriented rather than application oriented.
