Very good choice of Bo
I must say that this is indeed a great Bo staff I am very satisfied with the weight and durability with this Bo. It arrived a week early which I thought was pretty beast. I did however noticed only a slight curve torwards the end of one side and also I noticed three notches on the tip of the other end. I give this 5 stars because I don't think such minor issues should be taken to seriously. I am looking forward to shopping here in the near future. XD

Beautiful Weapon
The staff is light weight but strong. Smooth finish for smooth shooting and sliding. Rattan burns add character. Great buy for the price.

Durable Staff
I am very happy about with the bo staff that I have received. It is very sturdy and great for training. I drop it a lot and has very little scratches and dents(i am new to martial arts.) It arrived within a week so I was extremely excited that it came early. I can be pretty brutal with it when I train whilst doing ground slams and hanging off of it while doing some monkey style techniques and it is still able to retain its shape. Overall very good bo: I still yet to enter a sparring ring with it so that is why I gave it a four.

Weapons!
I am thinking about getting this for a custom for Halloween. It's coming to time and I think it would go good with it! I wanted to see if some others agree with my logic,
I am a personal collector of all weapons! I have over 20 knifes, 1 Katana, 1 2 handed sword, Chinese throwing knifes, and a machete. I have always found the Bo to be a strange but diligent weapon. Although I might use it for Halloween, I have trained myself to use most of the weapons I have. I wouldn't mind trying to learn how to use a Bo! I am 5'5 and I am guessing this would be a good size for someone of my caliber, I have no clue if my personal weight matters but I am ~160 and I can lift easy. I am just curious if I should buy it or just use the custom!?!

Hi skyhard. For costume purposes the 5 foot or the 6 foot length bo would work just fine. Also, this is a good 'starter' bo as it is light weight, flexible, and durable. I think you'll have fun with it.

Durability
Say I want to use this for sparring, would it hold up to it at a 6 foot length? I'm 5ft 10, 180lbs and I can really get a bo to fly and I need something substantial or with a little flex to withstand a strike. Whats your reccomendation? weight is no issue with me.

This particular bo is good for sparring due to it's flexible nature. The material is light weight and tends to compress upon contact instead of splintering. As such, it can handle repeated impacts. The only down side is that it has a lot more bend and play than a typical oak bo which means it does not have a substantial feel in your hands. One other benefit of this bo for sparring purposes is that the bend of the bo tends to work like a shinai for kendo, meaning it keeps your partner safe when getting hit.

You're right in the middle Roxanne but I would recommend the 6 foot model. It will be a little taller than is considered optimal, but the length is still good for combative purposes.

I recommend getting a 5 foot bo Eli. It will be usable now and give you a chance to grow into it. As for which one, keep this in mind: rattan is light and flexible, oak is heavy and sturdy.

Nice weight for lots of Bo/Jo staff work
Knew exactly what I was getting with this staff. Arrived quickly and that I appreciate. While there is a slight curve towards one end and small dimples in the wood, that is how I know the product is 'real' and not manufactured. Excellent for heavy class use, including spinning, striking, kata work, etc. And not just for kids, I promise!

Good Practice Bo
Purchased this for my spouse as a Birthday present. It's a bit short, but I knew that when I placed the order. I don't expect it'd withstand heavy impacts, but it's attractive and works well for practicing.

CACAO BOLA IS THE WAY TO GO.
I USED A CACAO BOLA STRAIGHT POLICE BATON FOR THIRTY YEARS. I STILL HAVE IT AND I WILL HAVE IT CREMATED WITH ME.WHY TAKE CHANCES? THE INSTRUCTORS COMMENTS WERE WRIGHT ON BUT I WOULD ADD A VERY SHORT DEMO OF EACH BO IN FUTURE VIDEOS. THERE WAS A TIME CACAO BOLA WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN A MARTIAL ARTS WEAPON. THEY ARE STRONG, HEAVIER AND DENSER THAN YOUR TYPICAL WOODS. ON THE UP SIDE, WORKING OUT WITH A HEAVIER DENSER BO WILL MAKE USING A TYPICAL BO FEEL LIKE YOUR TWIRLING A BATON IN THE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL PARADE. I AM ORDERING ONE FOR SURE.

Sizing
I am 5-8 and need a Bo-staff for a performance. I read the info and watched the videos, but am thinking that maybe a 4-ft. staff would better suit my needs. Which rattan staff size is best for showy spins and tricks?

I don't have the exact weight on hand, but it is quite light and highly flexible. Noticeably lighter than both pine and oak.

Very nice
My 6' bo arrived in a long cardboard tube just two days after I ordered it. It's perfect- no warping to be seen- light and strong, great for practice. If you expect to use this bo for hard striking I suggest getting a heavier choice, but at $20-$25 each, why not get both?

I dont any experience to compare so the comment should be taken with a grain of salt. I like the Bo it looks very cool is lightweight and is much easier to practice with than the hardwood but Im afraid that Ill break it if I put full force into a strike. Ive heard a cracking sound a couple times when putting force into the swing rather than just trying to get the movement down and Im sure its not because Im passively powerful. Maybe thats how its supposed to work, as I said I dont know much about them. Id more than likely buy another one if I busted this though.

Fantastic Stick!
Very very pleased with this stick. Very light, great durability, flows very nicely through spins and exchanges. Haven't had one break yet, much longer lifespan then an ash bo. I am quite pleased and plan on pick up a few more to serve as spear shafts and see how that works out.

A good choice!
This is a truly good staff overall. It is lightweight and very fast. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good durable staff. The only thing is if you want to create a Kata or Form with it, it is not a good staff for ''sticking'' a strike, but it is good for just about everthing else.

Great when doing a hand to hand combat form. Lightweight and fast, they can take a beating. When they do break though, they explode.
