Why do Some Kama Have Holes in the Blade?

This is an explanation a to why certain kama are stark and austere in design vs fancy and ornate. Traditional kama tend to be slanted toward functionality and historical application, while modern kama focus on the ability to impress judges and optimize tricking.

Size Question

Following the video instructions, I measured my son's arm at 15 inches. You only have 10 and 12 inch Kamas on your site. Where can I get a set that is suitable for his arm length?

Hi SMac. Based on your son's measurements, this pair would be more appropriate: wp-ka-06. The kama with the holes in the blades and flashier designs are more intended for tournament purposes. As such, they have shorter handles for quicker spinning, tossing, etc. If your son needs a modern, tournament pair of kama then you might need to disregard the advice on sizing I provided in the above video.

Kama are weapons originally developed by the Okinawans. However, the kama shown on this page are more for tournament demonstration than for actual use.

What size handle do get?

My son is 8 years old and just competed in his first tournament. He is getting into Kama's now but I didn't know rather to order 10 or 12 inch handles for him.
