I have two questions.
Do you have to polish the blade after it has been used to cut, or when you make any contact with the blade?
And, does it cut well tamashigiri?

Vale - It is recommended that after you cut with the blade, or make contact with it, you should clean and re-oil it. The oils from your skin can cause it to spider rust. As for tamashigiri - I would be cautious when pursuing cutting because it only has a half tang construction. Most swords at this price point are for training and demonstration rather than hard core cutting.

I'd recommend picking up a sword cleaning kit like this one - http://www.amazon.com/ACE-11355-Deluxe-Sword-Cleaning/dp/B001F4S0NY

Yes this set would be good to get a beginner going, although I would definitely recommend expert supervision.

hmm...
ok so i got the sword two days after i ordered this which was great, but when i opened it up it was missing the throwing stars but i guess thats ok. The sword itself is good, but i am disappointed that i didnt get all the pieces. Also i looked at a few other websites after i ordered this and they were much cheaper than this one.

The stars are under the hand guard. If they're not there, please email customercare@karatedepot.com and they'll help you out.

Fuctional?
Was wondering if this was a fully function sword? Can it be taken apart for repairs and reassembed easily?

This is more of a demonstration set and probably would not withstand serious abuse.

I have been looking for a place were I could get the things I need to get myself back in the game, it's good to see that there is a place that doesn't scalp you. This is good stuff.

I was very pleased with the blade more so than the other weapons it came with, they were completely unsharpened and I deem them basically worthless other than for display. But the blade is nice, very sturdy and great for 'practical use'. The habaki holds the blade in its place and in the scabbard very well. but the blade in the scabbard limits actual stealth movement because it rattles a little bit. But all in all in my ninja gear it ranks #2.

About the snorkel - you can breath through it when under water, but... the scabbard is really long so you have to be deep under water or it sticks out far. Also, it doesn't curve (obviously) so you have to have your face pointing up to use it.

goood sword, bad shurikens
The sword is great, the only thing bad about the buy was the shuikens they aren't sharp and sometimes won't even stick in a cardboard box. Buy this for the sword and not the other junk.

Sword: Great
I was very pleased to see that this item was shipped to my house several days earlier than what it was supposed to and even more pleased to see that the sword was of exceptional quality. But unfortunately, that was the only pleasing item in the set. The throwing stars are decent enough after some sharpening, but don't even try to keep them under the tsuba without being extremely frustrated with keeping them there. The mini tantos aren't that bad but they are very difficult to get in and out of their designated slots on the side of the sheath. The throwing knife is fine and dandy with some practice, but the use of the ''battle tool'' is still a mystery to me. The hidden compartment on the top of the sheath is not worth the hassle of getting the sword in cleanly without it getting caught up on the inside. Besides the all of those minor setbacks, the sword is great and exceptionally durable (Almost broke a lesser Machete clean in half and without any visible damage to the sword). Either way, for the sword... GREAT BUY.

THE SWORD!
This is my first Ninja sword and it's great! The only thing I don't like about it is the sheeth, the bottom part that you can remove, the blade gets hung up on it, a lot. I really don't like anything besides the sword on this. But the rest of the stuff is GREAT for display. Regardless... even if you only got the sword for this price it's a great buy!

AWESOME
This sword surpassed my expectations! Even though the throwing stars are a bit flimsy, it was still a great buy. I recommend this to anyone in search of a sword kit.

Nice!!!!!...ish
I bought this starting out with minimal expectations, later finding out its secrets...i was in awe ,the blade was stainless steel and sharp( my fav.), the throwing knife was exceptionally accurate (practice boys...you'll get it).... but the only regrets i have about buying this piece of weaponry is in the shuriken and in the ''paper weight''. The shuriken are like little pieces of hardened play dough squeezed out of one of the molds ...don't even bother sharpening them, their still not worth the time and energy, and the design makes it hard to make the shuriken stay on the hand guard, as well as take them off. The last thing is that stupid piece of steel that you will find...it looks lethal...if you like flying pieces of solid steel... Overall get this beauty...its for sure a keeper!

Great deal except for....
When i purchased this item i was very impressed when i recieved it. I was however disappointed by the fact that the throwing stars are pretty flimsy. They could not stick in targets or a cardboard box for that matter. However This is a great item to buy. Just not for shurikens!

You may already know this Blue but sometimes kali goes under the name of "Escrima". Check out this section of our store:
escrima_sticks
and see if that is the sort of thing you have been looking for.
