Pros and Cons of the Foam Tonfa
Analyzing the construction and value of the foam Tonfa.
These weapons were designed to help martial artists looking to add some contact into their kobudo kumite and other training. This safety and model brings some pros and cons that you should know about.

Pays to live in FL
I had ordered these tonfa Wednesday morning and to my surprise I got them delivered the very next day at the end of the day. The tonfa in question are very sturdy and well made. The rubber is soft enough to forgive most blows, however as many a martial artist will tell you, some strikes will do damage. However these are great for beginners and even experts. Great overall experience. My only suggestion is to try using warm water and a cloth to remove the safety sticker on one of the tonfa. I tried just peeling it off and ended up scratch the foam a bit, but nothing noticeable to most eyes.

Another question
Curious as to how well it would work to either take off the handle or tighten a set of string or something else around it, making it harder and possibly better to use?
Would also like it to be closer to the Okinawa style ones with a large pommel somehow.

Glup - I'm not certain what you mean about the string, but I can confirm that the handles do not have an Okinawan style pommel. I happen to agree that the addition of a pommel would be nice, but as of right now you'd be on your own for making something like that as a glue-on addition.

can you get any force?
can you get any significant force spinning this thing? as it's foam covered, I can't see it getting enough rotating power to say, move the tip of a sword or block a knife.
I want to use these for sparring, and as my partner will be using a bo or a katana, I'd need something that also works as well as the real ones.

Hi Glup. The core of these foam padded tonfa is a medium weight wood, so you can actually get a decent amount of spinning force. Foam nunchaku tend to be hollow plastic so those have much less power generation.
As I mentioned in the video above, with contact use you may have to reglue the handles into the shaft (but that's not a big deal).

Unfortunately you are right - weapons tend to be problematic when it comes to international shipping. Sorry Beeko.

Yes we should be able to ship padded weapons to the phillipines. Place the order and you will receive a confirmation message telling you about the shipping costs. You will then have the option to confirm the order or cancel it (if canceled, there will be no cost to you).

Are this good for sparring? I plan to use them to fight with other guys with padded weapons as well.

Yes these are effective for safe sparring. You'll just have to get used to rotating the foam in your hands as it feels a bit different than spinning wood. you'll get used to it though.

rubber foam tonfa
I just love tonfa. Although at TSK we use nunchaku, i just love to use these. I'm 13 years old and i am sure that i can recomend this item to all martial arts lovers. Very sturdy and very lightweight.
