mouth guard, tmj relief
Will the mouth guard help relieve adult bruxism and tmj pain? Can it be worn while sleeping?

Hi lablady. We aren't qualified to give that kind of opinion. You'll have to show this webpage to a medical professional and get their take on it.

It doesn't say if it's for a youth or adult? How large is it? I need it for my daughter who wears a youth sized guard before her braces.

Hi Shawn. This particular mouthguard is best suited for teenagers or adults. Guards with distinct youth sizes can be browsed here -

Unfortunately the orthodontic guard is not listed in the youth sizes. I Thank You for your assistance though.
FYI...I did a little research and it IS available in a youth size, just not at KD.

Hey Adam. I think you have to wait until you actually try it on to decide whether or not to mold it.

This is probably our best option designed specifically for braces.

one or two
My son has braces on top and bottom. Since this is a single layer mouth guard, do they make a dual layer, a bottom, will this one fit the bottom, or should we just look at other mouth guards ?

Hi Ron. This particular brand does make a double layer, but we are not currently carrying it. You can find it here - http://www.eastbay.com/product/model:139265/sku:143001/shock-doctor-double-braces-mouthguard/blue/.
If you'd like to shop here (which we'd be pleased about, haha) check out the following two models:
pr-mo-10
, and
pr-mo-183
. Although not explicitly for braces, they should still accommodate without problem.

This mouthguard only protects the top teeth which makes it a single layer.

Can an amateur boxer safely wear braces with upper and lower mouth guards and not worry about getting cut?

This mouth guard is made from silicone which works better with braces. Most mouth use plastics which won't fit over your braces as well as this one.

If you have braces, it is even more important for you to wear a mouthguard than it is for other people because of the risk of getting cut. These should provide good protection for you if you wear them right. Make sure to wear both the upper and lower mouth guards, as you said, and if you are still concerned about getting cut, you can show your mouth guards to your orthodontist to make sure they fit you well and are providing ample protection (though these are made to fit easily without boiling and should not give you a problem).

Akiva - yes, mouthguards such as this do a great job in protecting the mouth even when wearing braces. If you have braces on you upper and lower teeth it is generally recommended you choose a double layered mouth guard that protects both rows of teeth rather than just the top layer style.

The Mouthguard does not fit right out of the box as the manufacturer advertises. It fits quite loosely.

#1 on the market
I was so impressed with this mouth guard. It had an instant fit over my braces. I train Jujutsu and Judo, and I train hard, so I needed a really good mouth guard, and this one is it.

More money but worth it
My sons braces cut him when his mouth gets hit. This mouth guard protects his mouth.
I didn't realize that it protects from concussions. I feel better about his sparring now that I know that.
