Let's be clear—this is a solid, no-frills bo at a reasonable price. That said, I'm writing this review to warn everyone that while the pictures on the website make it seem roughly in line with the others, it's literally the heaviest bo I've ever held. I'm no expert, so maybe our school just favors a lighter staff, but I was genuinely shocked by how big and heavy it was out of the package.

So if you're buying this for a child, this isn't the one for you. I bought this for my 8 y.o. daughter, who is VERY strong for her ago, and it's way too heavy for her.

Also, I saw someone post in the Q&A asking what type of wood it is. A sticker on mine says that it's Red Oak.  

This may be my first bow, but I think its awesome. I've hit targets (trees) pretty hard with it and it holds strong. I don't know what kind of Bo people are used to, but I don't think its too heavy. I'm 5'10" and 145 to give you an idea of how skinny I am too. I use it for ninjutsu so other martial arts might require light bo's. However, it serves our purposes very well.  

I like this bo a lot. It was heavier than I expected, but that's good for me to help strengthen my muscles while using it. Certainly no quick maneuvering with it, but definitely worth the price.  

I practice with this every day ive become more acurate and have more speed. Definatly don't hit my self in the face as much

This Bo Staff is the greatest thing I ever got. I take Tang Soo Do so this came in handly. I feel like a Master now. If you are looking for a staff you should get this.  

I don't like the weight. It's kind of in between being strong enough to with stand some punishment, and being light enough for competitions. After using tapered bo staffs for forms I regretted buying this. But it is great for practicing strikes, and more importantly conditioning the body for using those strikes.  

I enjoyed training with this staff, but I was only able to do demonstrations. With full contact with a dummy, the staff broke into 2 pieces after the first strike. The wood did not even show signs it was about to give way, it just snapped. It was a good weight though, and was fun while it lasted. Obviously I will not be using hardwood staffs for full contact again.
