These corded nunchucks are crafted from natural select hardwood. They have a simple, traditional look and have a smooth glossy finish. They have a 1" diameter and are available in either 12" or 14" lengths. A ball bearing version is also available. These chucks are excellent for practice and conditioning. Cord is 4 1/2" long.

Can't complain. I started out making my own out of soft poplar dowel so this is my first pair of octagons. I cannot put these down.

I'd buy a rope kit if you can't get your hands on the same type of cord. You may want to restring them if you are going to practice striking targets.

For $12.95 it is just right for good craftsmanship. They are made of red oak and tapered just right.

Hi Just starting out at 52 never used them before looks like in need 14 inch set. are there any that come with a cd to help you get going. padded or no pad chain on rope could someone help get me started THANKS john

Hi JC - it's great to hear that you are jumping into the nunchaku. Although there are no nunchaku that come with a dvd helper, there are some resources out there for you to consider. Here are a few tidbits to help you get going though - many beginners enjoy using foam nunchaku as it helps reduce injury. The dynamics of this weapon often lead to little bumps and bruises and using a foam pair eliminates potential for injury. However, too much reliance on foam nunchaku will ultimately detriment your ability to use real wooden nunchaku, as wood behaves differently and must be handled differently.

When it comes to chain or rope - rope is generally considered the more traditional of the two, however many people enjoy chain (Especially since its popularization by Bruce Lee). Rope can be more easily replaced if it wears out. The length of that cord or chain should be roughly four fingers across (should be just long enough to dangle across your open pal with extra rope). Some people use shorter rope than that to increase their spin speed, but sacrifice a lot of practical application and weapon length.

Best thing is find someone that knows how to use them. In the beginning and agreeing with okiken on the lenght of cord (I go 3 to 4 fingers myself) I would stay away from the foam, completely different feel and refrain from the flips and tricks at least for a while. If you do not know anyone, I would say check YouTube out for demos. Either way, if you use them alot, you will still occasionally get bumbs at times, hopefully not on the head though, I still do after even after 42 years. Another warning, striking a punching/kick bag with these inncorrectly, they will bounce back at you.

I agree with some of the other posters, these chuks are nice (why I'm buying another set) but always re-string these with para-cord and to your desired lenght. I like mine 3 to 4 fingers width apart(putting fingers together sideways between batons) which is less reach but much better control. It's the way Grandmaster Soken taught in his era to me.

The chucks are of good quality wood and are beautiful. The only problem is the cord is weak. I broke the cord within the first couple of days.

awsome nunchku

When I bought the Nunchaku my first impression was ''wow these are great'' but then I realized that one string was longer than all of the others but this is easily fixed. All you have to do is simply pull on the short string until it starts to move into position. But besides that these are very great Nunchaku and I haven't had any more problems. I definitely recommend them.

off-set weighting....get 2 pairs of nunchaku?

So I ordered this pair along with a set of octagon ball bearing ones. The ball bearing ones were great, but these ones were horrible. One of the rods was much lighter and weaker than the other so the balance was way off and really difficult to use. I simply emailed KarateDepot explaining the problem. Kindly, they sent me another pair.

Stringing

I just purchased this nunchaku. The balance and wood feel excellent; however, the person that did the stringing was very confused. I don't know if they are all like the one that I got, but I ended up restringing mine in the correct way.

Great nunchaku

These are a great pair of nunchkaus. The cord kind of wore down but once it got to a certain point it did not get any worse. Great weight.

Less is more.

As a practitioner of nunchaku aka ''ee chul bong'' in the Korean style, I recommend this pair and put it squarely at the top of my list. With care, corded 'chakus are quite reliable (several drops of wax help relieve friction induced at the top of the 'chaku). They are quiet and in my opinion are more agile and fluid than linked chain with ball bearings.

Good but not great

I like these except that 1) the cord is too long, and 2) it needs to be made out something slicker like parachute cord so that there is less friction. Recommend you restring it with better cord.

Unbeatable quality for the price.

These are a great pair of silent wood nunchacku to add to your collection. Extrememly well balanced, good quality wood, and very quiet when practicing. It's worth picking up a few pairs at this price!
