Instructors of Kung Fu and other Chinese arts generally benefit from stocking these uniforms. They are inexpensive and are exactly what a new student would want when they come in for lessons. Great comfort and quality that will last until the student wants to invest in something higher end.

Useful Info on Size and Buttons
Some customers have experienced a little trouble at first with the buttons. When you first receive the uniform the material can be quite stiff simply from the newness and packaging. The cloth tabs can feel tight when trying to slip them through the opposing loops. After a few uses and washes though this will loosen up for you and feel great.
If you are on the fence about size, you can probably order safely a size smaller than you might think you need. For example, I am 5'10" and 150 and I can comfortably fit in both medium and large.

How long does it take for teh buttons to loosen up a bit? I'm having trouble getting them to go through the loops. A couple of them I can't get at all.

Tricky Sizing Charts
My 1 star rating is not for the uniform; it is for the sizing chart for this uniform.
I purchased the 100% cotton Kung Fu uniform based upon all of the wonderful reviews it received. It appeared to be the best bang for my buck. Unfortunately, I discovered that everything that I received was too small. I have an athletic build (played college basketball) so I paid close attention to the sizing charts. I was certain that it wouldn't be an issue, however now I'm stuck with the dilemma of paying to send the uniform back in order to get a larger size that just may be too small as well. My situation may be the exception to the norm, but if anyone is built a little bigger and longer than the average Kung Fu practicioner, then you may want to speak with customer service prior to ordering. I guess the only full proof way would be to have my uniform custom made. Other than not fitting me, the suit appear to be exactly what I expected.

Kung Fu Uniform
I am pleased with the uniform that I received. When I first put it on, I noticed that the uniform seemed bigger than the sizing chart led me to believe and was more stiff than preferable. Also, there was an odd smell and the neck was tighter than I would have preferred. Running the uniform through the laundry with my karate gis eliminated most of the problems. The smell was just from packing, and washing the uniform in warm water (even though it says to wash cold) and then putting it in the dryer for a full cycle (even though it says to drip dry) made the fit excellent. Just be sure to wash and dry all of the uniform in the same load, especially if there is an extra collar. That way, the amount of shrinking is consistent. Also, all of the stiffness disappeared. the neck stayed tight at first, but it does loosen up with use. If it seems too tight to the point that it is causing you discomfort, I would suggest practicing in your uniform without the inner collar until the neckline of the uniform loosens. Other than that, an excellent uniform and an excellent buy.

looks good
This is good uniform, it took 4 weeks to get here but it was worth it! and who could argue with $2.95 shipping, there are some things wrong in the description of the uniform, first there are 2 pockets inside the jacket and the pants dont have cuff ankles they have ankle ties, it may just be mine though, i wouldnt recomend the shoes at all though to practice in they fall off way to easy.

If you are referring to either the plastic or cotton bottomed kung-fu shoes, always order a size below what your actual size is; the shoes will slightly expand and fit to your feet, thus keeping the shoes on your feet. If you order the shoes properly, they do not fall easily until very worn and/or unusable.
My Kung-fu shoes last me around a year without training, and around 5-7 months while training intensly. I recommend the shoes.

I just received my uniform and I was highly impressed. It is well made of very nice cotton and the tailoring is very impressive. I have not wore it yet but I know that my Sifu will be impressed as well.

Material
I see that it says 100% cotton, but it also says "soft durable(cotton)" How soft is the material, does this uniform give your techniques a 'flowing' appeal?

Hi tdraym. I think it's important to note that this uniform does not flow as smoothly as satin based uniforms like you might see in taichi. That being said, this material is quite comfortable and breathable and will not feel like cardboard on you.

have checked out the size chart and I fall inbetween two sizes. I am six feet tall and 160 lbs. Would the large or x-large be a better fit for my inbetween measurements?

I believe you would fit in the large comfortably. The xl of course would work too, but would probably be a bit baggy for you.

Hi Brandon - unfortunately we don't have the white cuffs and neck at the moment. If you wanted to go with this uniform though I would recommend a size medium.

Disappointing. The pants are huge, while the top is quite narrow. The cotton material is stiff like cardboard, even after numerous washings. Very uncomfortable and impractical for martial arts work.

Just Right
Received in 7 days. I'm 5'11" 208 lbs. 46' chest. X-large fits fine. I washed it cold water & dried on med-low heat. Next to no shrinkage if any. I figured if it shrunk to much I'd sell it & get a larger one. Nice Uniform for the money.

Due to your height I think your best bet is the large. It'll be a bit baggier than the medium, but the medium might be a bit uncomfortable due to height.

Fickle Frogs!
These uniforms are a great value for the price, with one caveat. The frogs (buttons) have been a problem on several of the uniforms I've ordered. Some have been too loose and won't remain fastened, while others are so tight they have to be forced through the eyelet. That said, you'll be hard pressed to find a more durable uniform at any price.

One of the best
The uniform was extremely comfortable and a very nice value (especially at the price). If washed carefully, I would say it should last you for many years to come. It responds well outside of my hot, humid Houston home in many of the training sessions I go through. You can literally put these clothes to the test and it will never fail to surprise.
My honest 2 cents and the very first review I have ever written on this website.

This uniform is top notch all the way. I have six uniforms all with black buttons. This particular one has white buttons, collar and inside sleeves. I use this one as a ceremonial or dress up suit for making public appearances in front of other masters or when trying out for belt promotion. The pants are double gusset and have an excellent sock tube like device sewn in on the bottom of the cuff. Keeps everything really neat. Only caveat is there is no included sash. Other uniforms usually come with a black cotton one. This one does not. However, this is superior material, looks great during katas.

Other uniforms usually come with a black cotton one. This one does not. However, this is superior material, looks great during katas.

Good Bang for the Buck!
These uniforms are a great value for the money. My only problem is that there's been some minor issues with the frogs staying closed. I contacted Karate Depot about this and got an immediate response. The uniforms are good; their customer service is awesome!

Are these uniforms the same as tai chi uniforms? When I searched I was taken to this site. Your prices are reasonable and lots of good reviews. I need a tai chi uniform and haven't purchased one before. Thanks.

Hi Sirisan. This uniform is quite close to the traditional taichi uniform. The only real difference is that taichi uniforms tend to be silk in construction, while this is cotton. The silk is very loose and fluid, although can't take as much punishment (and is higher cost) that this uniform.

5'7" 100 lbs... What size?
My concern is pant length. But if I needed to get a uniform for an adult, 5'7", and 100 or so pounds, what would I want to get?

weight-wise medium would be best, but to compensate for length you may want to consider large.

Hey Scott. These uniforms don't use the numeral sizing method. Check the sizing chart at the bottom of the page to find the right one for you.

There is some truth to that, especially if you have a pair that are a little larger than your normal shoes size. Snapping style kicks can cause the to slip off the heel or flip off entirely.
However if you get a snug pair and are judicious about your kicking, you should be ok.

The wrap and tie tends to be a little more roomy because of that added length of the tie straps.

5' 11" 165-175lbs
I did see there were some similar questions but I wanted to get further clarification before I make my purchase.
I am 5' 11" 165-175lbs I believe XL would be my size, would you agree?
Also, does this uniform have the white inner cuffs? This is important as I move fast and this is imperative for my instruction to students.

A large would work and would be form fitting. an xl would work and be loose/comfortable.
These do not have the colored inner cuffs, you'd want to go in this sort of direction for that:

I'm 5'11" about 240 lbs. What should I order? The XXL? I'm worried the pants will be too long.

The xl would be better height-wise, but would probably be snug around the midsection. Your best bet is to go xxl but then hem the sleeves and pant legs to proper length.

Big guy in big trouble!
I'm only 6'1" but i weigh around 300 lbs. I am currently learning Jeet Kune Do and I need something comfortable to wear. I wear a 3XL in shirts and around a 42-44" in pants. Should I attempt to buy this uniform or should I buy pants and top seperately?

Hi Brian. Sometimes Jeet Kune Do schools are very informal with what they wear (t shirt/sweatpants) so be sure to check that first.
If the kung fu uniform is typical, then I think I could possibly get away with a size 7 but would be more comfortable around the waist with an 8.

Well as far fetched as this may sound,I'm not attending a Jeet Kune Do school. I live in Kentucky, and the closest JKD school is in California. I'm learning via instructional DVD's. I have the luxury to wear what I please. I want to wear a Kung Fu uniform when I learn. May sound weird or awkward to some, but it's what I want to do.

Brian,
Sorry to interject here but, I'm a Jeet Kune Do instructor who just moved to California. Depending on where you are in Kentucky, there are several of my students, one of which spent 7 years training with me, teaching in Nashville, Tennessee. Check them out here: http://www.pfsnashville.com/instructors.html.
Kerry Phillips is an excellent teacher with a great attitude.
Give him a holler!
Happy Training,
Kruu
P.S. I'm on this site checking out some uniforms for my students here in Calif.

Hi,
Viewing the size chart, is the XX-Large kung fu uniform equivalent in size to a 6/200 or larger size?

Hi Terry. I have found that the most useful approach here is to determine if you where XL in regular street clothes. If you do, the XXL kung fu uniform is probably the right choice. There isn't really a clear connection or delineation to 6/200.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. The problem I'm having is, I'm 6' tall and 240 lbs. I read that the cotton uniforms tend to shrink after the first washing and drying, so after viewing the size chart, I ordered the XXL Kung Fu uniform (6'3" - 6'7" /250 lbs.). Out of the bag, the jacket is a little snug and the pants don't allow for high kicks without pulling on the leg.
Further, once I wash it, it will most likely shrink. I intentionally bought it oversized for this reason. If I were actually 250 and 6'7", I wouldn't have been able to get into it at all.
So, I'm wondering if perhaps an X-Large (5'8" - 6'2" / 210 lbs.) was mistakenly placed in an XX-Large bag.
And, let me say, it is beautifully made, and I like the design and workmanship.
But ...you see my problem.
Any suggestions?
Terry

Terry,
Yes I see. You're probably right, the uniform is likely to shrink a little once you wash it.
First of all, please feel free to return the uniform to us for a full refund. No reason to be stuck with it if you aren't satisfied.
But second, I think there might be a solution for you.
Since this kind didn't quite fit right, you can buy the pants:
un-sp-05
and jacket:
un-sp-02
separately. This will cost you a bit more (sorry about that) but the sizes are much more customizable and larger options available.
In regards to the xl in the xxl bag - are there any tags on the uniform itself you might be able to check?

Hi,
Since my son has an interest in learning the arts, I've decided to just past the uniform on to him. He's smaller than I am, so it all works out.
I'll probably buy the pants and jacket separately, at a later date.
But thanks for your advice.

I have to say I was VERY skeptical when placing my order for the Kung Fu uniform. When my package arrived, I was VERY pleased. It is a pretty thick material, and stitched VERY well.
For your basic needs ,and dollar for dollar there is no better deal. You can buy a more expensive uniform...but why?
