Yes this is a good choice for wearers with braces. It prevents direct impact to the mouth. Cautious fighters could wear a mouthguard in addition.

How to Put Macho Warrior Face Shield on Headgear
The hard plastic Macho Warrior Face Shield is an excellent way to preserve your face while not disrupting visibility.
Because the face shield needs to fit so snugly on the headgear it can be a little tricky at first to get on. This video explains the process of quickly and easily assembling the face shield onto the headgear and how to properly slide it onto your head.

For Warrior or Macho?
I was wondering if this face shield works for both Warrior and Macho? Are they one and the same?
Thank you.

More Velcro
If the Velcro was a little longer I think it would be a great item instead of just a good one.

Helps with Safety
I had bought the Warrior headgear a couple of months prior to also getting the shield. my younger daughter had grown out of her first headgear and needed a larger new helmet. In Jul;y she fell mouth first into a desk chair knocking out her upper front tooth. Ultimately the tooth has been saved but she would not spar, even with a custom mouthpiece. I bought the shield and, within a few short weeks, is back to normal in the dojo. Other students think it is cool as well.
Bottom line: The shield protects the face. This shield fits only the specified head gear.

Be aware for headgear size
This product does not come in sizes; therefore, I purchased it along with large headgear. The problem is that when it is placed on the large headgear, it pulls so much that my son couldn't get the headgear on. My husband had to modify the faceshield by extending the velcro straps on the face shield. So, just be aware if you plan on using it on large headgear.

The Warrior Face Shield is excellent. In general, we prefer not to have my son wear face protection while sparring and training. It can give a false sense of security or cause a person to lead with his head since it is protected. However, my son, who is 8 1/2 years old and training for his 1st degree brown belt, had an accident and severely bruised his cheek bone and received 8 stitches. This mask permitted him to continue to train and spar while risking no further injury. It fit perfect to his Warrior head gear and he said the comfort and visibility was great. I highly recommend this product.

Straps are a little tight (short) for headgear we bought, doesn't seem "universal" to all headgear.

Hi Bruce. This face shield is specific to the warrior headgear, which is why you may have had some problems.
The universal face shield can be found here:
pr-hd-74
. That one is designed to fit all models.

glasses
I wear prescription sport goggles and they fog up in head gear. Will the shield increase the fogging? Any suggestions?

I'm not sure about the fogging, but I know the cage tends to be better space and comfort-wise for glasses and goggles -

careful if you have glasses
I have to take off my glasses when sparring, which has a negative effect on visibility, measuring distance, land punches and kicks where they are supposed to etc.. I bought this shield to be able to have the glasses on so that I can spar better. Though I can see how the face shield would be good for someone who only wants to protect their face, if you want to BOTH protect the face AND have glasses on, look for another solution. The headgear with the face shield attached is very uncomfortable to put on and off. In order for the face shield not to apply to pressure on the rims or frame of your glasses when putting it on, you might need to leave the side straps unfastened, and when you do that, it is rather difficult to fasten the straps once the whole set is on your head. Again, if you're planning to buy this for greater face protection and the chance to have your glasses on, I don't recommend the shield. I for one will sell my shield (which I was able to use two times anyways) and buy either a ski goggle or a clear plastic shooting goggle with a strap to tighten it around the head.

I'd like to make a recommendation. The Warrior Face Cage is an excellent option for glasses wearers -
pr-hd-09
. It works with the Warrior headgear just like this plastic facemask does, and is much more accommodating on the inside. The metal also refuses to flex, which prevents it from pressing up against the glasses frames.
As a glasses wearer I've tried this personally and it works very well.

I purchased this item for my 7 year-old daughter. She's a red belt and usually has to spar with 9 year-olds at tournaments, so we purchased this item to protect her pretty face. The shield is well made, but it does not integrate well with the Macho Warrior Face Shield it's supposed to be designed for. Specifically, the openings on the face shield are not shaped or positioned properly to easily accommodate the velcro straps that thread though them. The pink skin on the Warrior gear is very thin and the sharp edges of the velcro straps cut into them. I'm not confident that they will last long and hope that Macho redesigns this item to work more seamlessly with the face shield. Also, with the face shield in place (and you will not want to remove it often as it's so hard to put on) it's rather difficult for her to get the face shield on since it's very snug and the chin guard covers part of the opening. It may be the best thing out there, but it could be a lot better!

Good protection
The shield fits the headgear like a glove and provides excellent protection. The eye slit is open but as long as your opponent is wearing gloves nothing should penetrate. You probably want to use the cage instead of the shield for weapons sparring. Once the shield is attached you never have to remove it even to put your headgear on. The openings in the shield provide good ventilation and nothing fogs up. For the most part you look through the open eye slit but this takes some getting used to. If you tilt your head down you are looking up through the top portion of the plastic instead of through the eye slit and your vision will be distorted. But after using it a while you learn to compensate and you never again have to worry about injuring your nose, face or eyes.

Mitch Rosenberg, 2nd Degree Black Belt
This Face shield is great protection. It can really take a blow without feeling much impact to yourself.
I have two problems with this piece:
1) Visibility does get impaired when looking through the clear plastic. Particularly if you are a fighter that likes to keep his chin down.
2) Its not an easy on/off shield attached to the helmet.

Warrior Clear Face Shield Performance
I started using this face shield after having had my right cheek surgically reconstructed leaving 2 inner layers of stitches and a long external set of stitching running from my eye to my mouth.
My estimated time to be fully healed is 2 years and in the first days and weeks the wound is only healed by a few percent.
We tested this shield extensively and placed numerous kicks to this and it held shape and position when ''properly'' attached to the helmet. It really does the job. In practice and actual competition it has deflected numerous wild kicks and punches that came to the face some of which were severe and it does it's job.
I recommend continued use of a mouth guard as some opponents seeing the face guard seem to look at it as giving them carte blanc permission to actually go for the face more than without (it seems) and some of these kicks and blows deliver enough shock that you could severely bite your own tongue or have the guard driven up into your own chin.
The shield turns out to give me much more confidence to spar with much larger martial artists which often may be more the 100 pounds my own body weight or younger which may sometimes be quicker than even I am and the result is that I have massively improved my fighting skills working with vastly superior martial artists and a vastly wider group of fighters including those really big guys that have marginal skills and not much precision or control developed yet.
Caution: You must be mindful of the REST of your body. You will come to feel VERY protected and confident with this product and can take on challenges where you expose yourself to extreme blows to the ribs or legs or even knees so remember that you are NOT indestructible with this.

Is this a universal one size fits all? Kids - Small and Youth - Medium? If it does it would seem to make sense to say that in the description.
