Great customer services... the first bo was warped and i contacted customer services, took some pictures of the issue submitted them and had a new bo shortly after that was perfect.. Permalink

ok for the price

Ordered 3 and all 3 are slightly different different. Not the straightest bos, had some nicks and dents, one has a sharp grain running down the bow on both sides as if its not sanded smoothly. For the prices as cheap as it is, for a beginner its ok (at best). Permalink

Size

I'm too tall for a 5 foot bo and too short for a 6 foot bo. Would this bo react well to being cut 3 inches on each size? Also, how heavy is this bo? Permalink

Marie - yes you could do that. Just sand the edges a bit after the cuts and you should be fine.

This bo is a nice weight, not too heavy but also not excessively light. It can take moderate contact.

Its beauitful but

Just received my Bo staff today, I want to start training with it but noticed a crack in the center of staff that goes 1/2 way through. I need to return it.

My Bo staff that I ordered on April 1st and today in my class (this is the first time I used it) I simply dropped it and a large piece broke in the middle. I have not fought with it at all. What I'm wondering is if this is actually expected from such a simple problem.

Hi Elena. That actually isn't typical. Sometimes these pieces of woods have hidden knots or weak lines that aren't discovered during production.

Hey, i Bought this item a while back, prolly about Sept 2nd of 2013. and hadnt used it until today. i was just spinning it getting some speed going and i dropped it on the ground and it snapped instantly. It wasnt on concrete or anything hard like that. It may have been a manufacturer make defect, which happens, but i cant really say what it was exactly. But since it did snap so easily i cant recommend it. Some feed back on what it could've been would be appreciated.

Diameter

What is the Diameter of the tapered red oak bo? I see others have a 1 1/2 inch diameter and the tapered ends are 1 inch. Is this standard?

This particular bo is 1 1/4" around the center and tapers down to 1" at the ends.

6' Tapered Staff?

The description of this item says 6' is available but there is no 6' in the drop down. Is there a 6' tapered staff anywhere on this site?

We don't have an exact weight for akl as that can vary slightly piece to piece (natural wood bo's are like that). However I can tell you it is a bo with good heft and durability, better for traditional use than for tricking.

Badly Warped Bo

This Bo arrived so badly warped that I can not use it. It bends out over 2 inches in the middle. I want a new straight one. I can send pictures.

Hmm, this is rare but unfortunate when it happens. Sometimes the manufacturer can't control these bends that occur over time (it's the nature of the wood).

Best Choice?

I am looking for a bo, that can be used in both kata and training. Sturdy and strong are a must! In class I prefer using the tapered style, but if this style is not going to hold up I am open to straight. Opinions and Recommendations?

I would recommend the tapered hardwood style for you: wp-bo-04. It's reliable and durable but still manageable in weight.

Sturdy and Graceful

I am well pleased with this red oak tapered bo, the six foot long bo. It's got a good heft to it, solid and strong, yet not heavy. It's perfect for me, and well worth the price. Good buy!

Difference between tapered and non tapered?

I am looking to purchase a red oak bo staff such as this one but I was wondering what the difference is between the tpered bo and the non tapered bo. A little help please?

In general, the tapered bo have a more centralized pivot point which allows them to spin a little easier. However the tradeoff of less material on the end makes for a bo that is a bit more susceptible to breaking as well as a slight loss in centrifugal power.

It's got a little flex, but red oak is a fairly sturdy wood. Not nearly as flexible as rattan.

What is the actual diameter of this bo? What does it taper down to?

This bo has a diameter of 1 1/8" in the center and it tapers down to about 1" on the edges.

This bo is strong, light, and easy to control. I thought the glossy material that makes it smooth, but I was wrong.

P.S., Get it in 6 ft. It's much better than 5 ft.
